Go to a music concert of her choice (spring for the concert T-shirt too).
Go grocery shopping and cook a meal for the family together.
Go to a local coffee shop to enjoy mochas, talking, and a good book together.
Try some ethnic restaurants together. If she’s studying a foreign language at school, let her help you order off the menu in that language.
Saturday morning breakfasts together are the best. Grabbing a coffee on the way to school is also a great time to connect.
Go to some of your favorite local sporting events. As one dad told me, “It’s not whether your home team wins or loses. It’s all about sharing the nachos.”
Take her to the mall and spoil her every now and then. If you’re feeling really brave, take her on an overnight trip to shop in a larger city or at an outlet mall.
Check out the museums and cultural attractions in your area.
Take your dog for a walk together.
Go to a park and rent a canoe or a tandem bike.
Pick her up from school and take her to lunch.
Do some volunteer work together at a homeless shelter or food pantry.
Go through a good Christian book or DVD series together.
Take a class at your community recreation center together.
Grab a coffee to-go and take a drive in the country. If she’s of driving age, let her drive!
Take her on one of your business trips. She’ll love it! She can hang out by the pool with a good book and her MP3 player while you’re in meetings. In the evenings you can grab dinner and see the sights.
Take her to a movie or have a video night at home with popcorn and premium ice cream.
Take her to a big water park and play. You can forget for a couple hours that she’s growing into a young adult that will be leaving home soon!
Take your daughter for a manicure and pedicure, and then take her shopping for flip-flops so she can show off her toes.
Go through the daddy-daughter dates again. You’d be surprised how many of them, with just a little tweaking, can be used with your older daughter. Plus, you can reminisce about all the memories you created with the dates the first time around.
