The field of medical illustration is a technically oriented, science-based art. Some colleges and universities dedicate an entire department of their art program to medical illustration. The techniques for creating medical art have evolved considerably over the past ten years or so, but the significance of its imagery is immeasurable. Subject matter can range from anatomical views of the entire body to close-up dissections of surgical procedures. Art for the veterinary field is also a major component of medical illustration. This profession can be rewarding for those who wish to combine a love of medical science with their drawing skills.
