Botanical illustration is a great career for the artist who has experience or education in the plant world. The proficient botanical artist may have studied or worked with plants, gardening, or trees in some manner, or may simply have an interest in this topic. Quite often, botanical experts art-direct images created by the botanical illustrator. Greeting cards are an obvious patron of floral art as are still life paintings created for galleries. More technically-based botanical illustration buyers commission artists who can accurately and stylistically render vegetation of all forms, full-grown plants, and detailed drawings and/or paintings of leafs and blossoms. The roots of this market reach deep into the science, gardening, publishing, advertising, nature, and corporate industries.
