16. Scientific Illustration

The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators’ website states that “…the principle task of the scientific illustrator is to prepare accurate renderings of scientific subjects.” Scientific illustrations are a necessity to professional journals, science textbooks, museum exhibits, and web sites. “The function of a scientific illustration is a practical one: to inform, to explain, and to instruct — in short, to communicate,” the guild clarifies. Science-oriented illustrators, whether working in traditional or digital mediums, share the same goal of interpreting complex, technical information.
