17. Technical Illustration

Technical illustration visually communicates information of a mechanical or technical subject in terms of drawings and diagrams. Technical artists produce images that accurately present complicated information to either a technical or non-technical audience and rely on exact scale and dimensions to illuminate viewer’s interest and understanding. Technical illustrations for the public contain simple terminology and graphics that can be easily understood are often referred to as “creative” technical art. Technical drawing for industry, science, and engineering on the other hand can be much more involved in terms of its language and its requirements for mathematical accuracy. This highly specialized form of art extends into virtually every aspect of education and commerce.
