The arena of animal illustration is a vast market that ranges from technical animal art—wild and domestic—to all types of animal and pet portraits created for the public. The animal lover with the talent to draw will instinctively gravitate to this type of art, and additional research will reveal the use of animal illustrations in the science and publishing trades as well as by corporations that service the farm and pet industries. The Society of Animal Artists promotes an “excellence in the artistic portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet,” and it sets the standards of animal respect worldwide. This breed of artist has an historical affinity with conservation and environmental movements.
