30. Military Art

Closely related to historical illustration is the category of military art, which can involve historical or contemporary renditions of military life and artistic recreations of historic battles. Military art can cover many aspects of warfare as well as depictions of military figures, uniform and emblem designs, on-site drawings completed during combat, illustrations of various weapons or military vehicles. Military artwork can be commissioned on several fronts ranging from military organizations themselves to advertisers and book publishers as well as by the print and gallery markets. A career in the historical or military arts is an important and highly regarded means to utilizing one’s talents as an artist/illustrator.
