As it is similar to nautical illustration, all the above facts also apply to the specialized field of aviation art. Both markets reach into the historical area with artists recreating scenes of boats and aircraft in sea and air settings from earlier periods. Commercially produced aviation art for books, magazine publishers, and limited-edition print franchises are often commissioned by veterans or veteran’s organizations who served or serviced specific aircrafts or with particular air squadrons. Artists sometimes work closely with the people who flew and maintained the planes in an attempt to faithfully represent those vehicles as they appeared on the ground or in action. Superbly detailed and technically accurate, aircraft art has a loyal and discerning audience, yet such imagery has the ability to reach the emotional sensations of many.
