42. Gallery Artist

Becoming a gallery artist is a great offshoot for illustrators who prefer to direct their talents toward “personal” projects. Subjects such as landscape, still life, human figure, plein air, etc., are the most popular with the gallery market. Moreover, the acceptable mediums for gallery art range from all forms of painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic) to all types of drawing (graphite, charcoal, ink). Before the days of the internet, artists were limited to the galleries in their local area. Today an artist can roam through the works of galleries across the globe to find one that’s best representative of his or her own style and most gallery sites include submission guidelines.
