A new form of street and sidewalk drawing that is beginning to come into favor is that of 3-D “anamorphic art”—stretched images on a sidewalk that, when observed from a particular point of view, appear as three-dimensional scenes. Anamorphic sidewalk art is based on a mathematical formula that creates an optical illusion for its viewers, a formula that dates back to the Renaissance-era when the creation of stretched, 3-D images had a huge following. Today this type of art has been re-born into an enormously popular form of outdoor entertainment. Clients for 3-D street art can include outdoor events for cities or towns, advertising and marketing events, and even weddings and birthday parties.
