Institutional Illustration

The classification of illustration commonly identified as “institutional illustration” refers to images created for educational/collegiate institutions, corporations, industrial marketing, and other such non-consumer clients. In relation to the drawing markets mentioned above, many of the categories I have listed (info-graphics, food, product, medical, maps, etc.) can fall under the criteria of institutional art. In other words, while the national societies and annuals usually group some of their entries into this category of art, in actuality this label has become a catchall for many of the markets noted herein. There is no one style or specific market of drawing that is exclusive to institutional illustration.
