Wow, who would have thought it? The tenth book in the DCI Warren Jones series already!

As ever, there is a huge list of people to thank, but some deserve a special mention.

First of all, my beautiful fiancé and beta reader, Cheryl, whose advice and input has helped shape this series. As I write this, we are currently in Covid-19 lockdown together – I can’t think of anyone I would rather be isolated with.

Special mention also goes to my father, whose excellent proof-reading skills have minimized the number of repeated phrases and logical inconsistencies throughout the series. Two of the characters in this book were directly inspired by a conversation with him a few years ago, so thanks for that! As always, he is ably supported by Mum, whose encouragement has helped me keep on going. Love you loads, guys.

I always mention my favourite lawyers, Dan and Caroline. Again, their expertise has proven invaluable.

Steve and Tina – I hope you like your belated wedding present!

Thanks also go to Jan Adams, who generously donated to the CLIC Sargent ‘Get in Character’ appeal. You never know who is going to win the contest to name a character, but when Jan won, I just knew I had to have a police dog handler – complete with German shepherd – in the book. I hope you like what I’ve done.

The gang at HarperCollins and HQ Digital have pulled out all the stops as usual, from the fantastic cover design, to the editorial team and the marketing staff. As always huge thanks for the work on this book and your help over the past six years. And if you have been enjoying these novels as audiobooks, join me in a round of applause for Malk Williams, whose narration has really brought my characters to life.

This book would not have been possible without the fantastic input of my editor, Abi Fenton. You have a real understanding of what makes Warren and his team tick, and your suggestions have been invaluable. I look forward to working with you again in the future.

And finally, thanks to my readers. So many of you have got in touch, either directly or through your reviews. It really is appreciated and makes it all worth it.

Thanks again for taking the time to read A Price to Pay, and I hope to see you in the future.
