Sari Silk Hip Belt

Crochet this unique hip belt to go with your sari silk purse. A fun trim makes the belt even more special — wear with jeans or a skirt for an exotic, Bohemian look.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Row 1: Ch 8, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn — 7 sc.

Rows 2–117 (or desired length): Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. End off after last row.

Bottom Edge

Attach yarn to one corner, working on long side, * ch 11, sk 6 rows, sl st to one lp only at next row; rep from * across row. End off — 17 ch-11 lps.

Closure

Work scs around entire metal half circle. End off. Attach half circle with yarn needle to one short end of belt. Attach button to other end on RS.

Top Edge

Attach yarn to any end st at top edge of belt, sc in end of second row and in end of each row across. Sk 3 rows, evenly spaced across to within last row, sl st to top of last row. End off — 112 sc + sl st at each end (3 dec made).

Finishing

With sewing needle and thread, attach beads to center of each ch-11 lp. Weave in ends.

Optional: Add fringe between ch-11 lps if desired.

1 skein (100 g/80 yd.)sari silk yarn

Size E/4 (3.5 mm) hook

1 metal 1¼″ half circle

1 wooden toggle button, 1½″-wide

17 metal beads

Yarn needle

Sewing needle and matching thread

Gauge:

7 sc = 2″

4 sc rows = 11/8″

Helpful Hint:

If you start a project before you are finished with another one, make sure you attach a note to the first project listing the hook size you used. It will save you time and frustration.
