Finished size — 83″ × 6¼″

Skill Level — Advanced Beginner

illustration

I love designing three-dimensional projects or anything that dangles. The three-leaf clovers are part of what make this scarf unique, and even though it's easy, the beginning chain is extra-long. The beginning chain is the most difficult part of the whole pattern, but it is so pretty when it is finished!

Materials:

1 skein (7 oz./225 g/335 yd.) yarn in burgundy

Size H/8 (5 mm) hook

Yarn needle

Used in this project: Bernat Super Value in Burgundy

Gauge:

1 Three-Leaf Clover = 17/8″

8 dc = 3″

4 dc rows = 27/8″

Special Stitch:

Three-Leaf Clover (clo):Ch 7, sl st in seventh ch from hook, 3 times.

Helpful Hint:

If one side of your scarf is tighter than the other, weave in a piece of yarn on the loose side and pull to make them even.

Rows 2–4: Sk first dc, dc in each dc across, ch 3, turn, do not ch 3 at end of fourth row. End off. Turn scarf to front side, attach yarn to rt corner st on short end. Working first sc in same st as joining, and 2 sc in middle, work 11 sc total across short end. End off. Rep on other end — 11 sc on each end.

Three-Leaf Clo St Edging Rnd Attach yarn to first st at rt corner of long side on front, * Ch 4, (ch 7, sl st in seventh ch from hook) 3 times — 3 leaf clo st made, 1 sl st in ch before first leaf, ch 4, sk 3 dc, sl st in next st, rep from * around entire scarf, working up both sides. End off — 114 three-leaf clos.

Note: Work 2 three-leaf dangling clover sets on each end.

Work Clovers in Center

Fold scarf in half with RS showing. Pm to center st at fold. Count down 5 sts (dcs) Place another marker in center. Count down 6 sts. Pm. Cont down side of scarf toward end, placing marker after every 6 sts, rep on other side of fold — 37 markers.

Clovers

Start at center working toward end, then work clos going in opp direction on other end, so they will lay right when scarf is placed around neck. Attach yarn around st where marker was placed, work a 3 leaf clo, sl st in same sp where yarn was attached. End off, rep at each marker — 37 three-leaf clos.

Words of Encouragement

The beginning of anything is usually the most difficult phase. If you are beginning a marriage and are discouraged because it's harder than you expected, remember that you've never been a spouse before. You have to practice, just as in anything, to increase your skill. Working on your inner qualities will help to make the transition easier.
