Skill Level — Intermediate

Are you in a rut and bored with your crochet? If you are the kind of person who makes only afghans or scarves, and you use only yarn, then why not break out of your comfort zone and do something new? Try this crocheted bracelet with bedspread cotton thread — it's not as hard as you think!

Materials:

1 ball (150 yd.)#10 cotton thread in cream

Size D/3 (3.25 mm) hook

1½″-wide bangle bracelet

Tacky glue

Yarn needle

Used in this project: J&P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen

Gauge:

2 sc = 3/8″

1 shell = 1″

Helpful Hint:

If you have trouble keeping track of your crochet hooks because you lose them or lend them to other people, buy several extra hooks when they are on sale so you will never be without the size you need.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Piece for Inside of Bracelet

Row 1: Ch 51, sc in second ch from hook and in each across — 50 sc.

Rows 2–7: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. You may have to work more or less rows for piece to come out a little over the edge on each side. End off.

Next Step: Glue piece to inside of bracelet, keeping edges free from glue so you can attach thread and work extra rows. Make sure ends meet. Let dry.

Outside of Bracelet

Work in rnds. Attach thread to one side of bracelet at first st on row (at corner).

Rnd 1: Increasing 10 sc, evenly spaced, sc around entire edge, attach to first sc with sl st. You will make incs about every fifth sc — 60 sc.

Rnd 2: * Ch 5, sk 3 sc, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * around, sl st to first sc — 15 ch-5 sps.

Rnd 3: Ch 5, sc in first ch-5 sp, * 7 dc in next ch-5 sp, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, rep from * around. End with sc in last ch-5 sp, sl st in sc at base of first ch-5 sp made at beg of rnd. This is done so this ch-5 sp looks like the others. 5 7-dc shells and 1 ch-5 sp between each sh.

Rnd 4: Sl st to center of ch-5 sp, ch 5, sk next (sc and dc), * sc in next dc, (which is second dc of sh), ch 5, sk 3 dc. Sc in next dc, ch 5, sk (1 dc and 1 sc) 1 sc in next ch 5 sp, ch 5, sk next sc and next dc, rep from *. End with sl st to center of first ch-5 sp of Rnd 3. You should have 2 ch-5 sps between each sh and 1 ch-5 sp above each sh — 15 ch-5 sps total.

Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 3.

Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 4.

Rnd 7: Attach thread with sl st to sc at loose edge, * sl st across next 2 sc on loose edge, sl st next ch-5 sp to next sc, rep from * around, sl st to first sc on loose edge, securing in place. End off.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends. For a 1″-wide bracelet, eliminate rows to fit.

Words of Encouragement

I once heard a statement that is very simple, but so powerful: “If you keep doing the same things, you'll keep getting the same results!” Do you feel as if your life is in a rut? Do your relationships need a positive change? You may not know what to do about it, but little changes can make a big difference. Start making changes now, and everyone around you will benefit.
