If you enjoy coffee, you'll love this scarf (and get lots of compliments at the coffee shop)! One of my favorite things in life is getting together with a friend to share a hot cup of coffee.
1 ball (3 oz./85 g/197 yd.) yarn in brown
1 ball each mercerized 100% cotton crochet thread #3 in red (A) and brown (B)
1 skein each 6-strand embroidery thread in taupe and blue
Size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook for scarf
US steel hook size 5 (1.7 mm) for coffee cup
Yarn needle
Sewing needle and matching thread
Used in this project: Lion Brand Wool Ease in Mink Brown (MC), and DMC Color Variations embroidery floss #3782, #3808 and #3790 for diamonds. If using #10, it needs to be doubled.
Scarf: 7 dc = 2″ (with I hook)
3 dc rows = 2″
Cup and saucer = 4″ × 3½″ with handle (with steel hook)
7 sc and 8 sc rows = 1″
People tend to crochet more tightly when they are stressed and loosely when they are relaxed. So if days or weeks go by before you pick up a project again, make sure your gauge is still the same.

Do you have many friends in your life? If you feel alone, maybe it's because you are just waiting for someone to call or have you over. Start reaching out to other people instead of waiting for them to reach out to you. I know you have heard the saying, “If you want to have friends, you have to be a friend.” Have someone over for coffee, and maybe a friendship will start to grow.

Weave in ends. Sew diamonds to cup with sewing needle and 1 strand thread. Sew cups to ends of scarf. With embroidery thread, stitch steam onto scarf with an outline st (see Diagram A), as in photo. For fringe, cut 72 strands of yarn (14″ each). Fold 2 strands of yarn and attach to st at end of scarf. Rep with other strands and on other end of scarf.
Diagram A
Work from left to right, keeping thread always on same side of needle, either to the left or right of it. Bring needle out where last stitch went in, following the line, which may be curved or straight.
