Sea kayaking is a common activity at the Channel Islands. Island Packers can transport your boat for $14 – 20 depending on its size. Visitors often choose to join one of the park’s authorized outfitters to safely explore the islands while learning about its history from a knowledgeable guide. The Scorpion Beach area on East Santa Cruz Island is the most popular kayaking destination. Here you’ll find plenty of sea caves and cliffs to paddle in and out of. Sand beaches and a campground are easily accessible. San Miguel and Santa Rosa Islands are exceptional destinations, but only the most highly experienced and conditioned sea kayakers should venture into these waters due to consistently extreme weather and sea conditions. It’s not recommended, but you can paddle from the mainland to the islands. These paddlers should be particularly cautious. In addition to dicey weather and rough water, you must pass through a heavily trafficked shipping lane. Below is a list of authorized outfitters with rates for a day trip to Santa Cruz.
