Heart O’ the Hills

Attractions: Ranger/Entrance Station, Camping, Hiking

Heart O’ the Hills is located just 5 miles south of Port Angeles and Park HQ. The campground has 105 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis for $12/night. It’s open all year, but may be walk-in only depending on the amount of snow. Interpretive programs are held at the campground from late June through September. Potable water and flush toilets are available. There are no hook-ups. All sites accommodate RVs up to 21-ft in length. Some suit 35-ft RVs. Showers are not available, but the Sequim KOA (80 O’Brien Road; Port Angeles, WA 98362) allows visitors to use their showers for a nominal fee (ask politely).

Heart O’ the Hills Trail begins in Loop E of the campground. It’s an easy 4.6-mile (roundtrip) hike through old-growth forest. For a much more strenuous trek, hikers can loop Lake Angeles and Heather Park Trails (seasonal, check trail conditions). The trailhead is located near the campground entrance on the west side of Hurricane Ridge Road. The loop covers nearly 13 miles and passes Lake Angeles. The top of the loop intersects Klahhane Ridge/Heather Park/Switchback Junction where extremely ambitious hikers can continue hiking parallel to Hurricane Ridge Road another 3+ miles to Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center.
