Sol Duc Road, just west of Fairholme and Lake Crescent, is open all year (weather permitting). It leads to the area’s resorts, campground, and trailheads.
Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort (888.896.3818, www.olympicnationalparks.com) offers RV sites with full hook-ups ($33/night), basic cabins ($166), kitchen-cabins ($200), and a River Suite ($375). Pool admission is included with all overnight accommodations except RV sites. The resort is open from late March to mid-Fall. It also operates three mineral hot spring soaking pools and one freshwater pool from late March to late October. A soak will cost you $12.25/Adult and $9.25/Child (4 – 12). Massages are available for $55 (30 minutes), $75 (60), and $100 (90).
Sol Duc Campground has 82 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis for $14/night. Sites are available all year (pit toilets and no water in winter).
Sol Duc is a particularly good location for backpacking. The Seven Lakes Basin Area, south of Sol Duc Road, offers an excellent loop trail with views of Mount Olympus. Bear canisters, topographic maps, and backcountry permits are available at Sol Duc Ranger Station. One of the park’s more popular trails is the 1.6-mile Sol Duc Falls Trail, which leads to a picturesque three-legged falls.
