When to Go (REDW)

Redwood National Park is open all day, every day. All Visitor and Information Centers are open in summer with typical hours being from 9am to 6pm. Crescent City Information Center and Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center are the only visitor facilities that stay open year-round, except New Year’s, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. In winter, hours are shortened to 9am to 4pm. See Visitor Centers for all park facilities’ operating hours.

Summer is busy and often foggy. Winter is rainy. Spring and fall are marked by visiting migratory birds. No matter when you visit you can anticipate temperatures ranging between 40°F and 60°F along the coast. This fairly constant temperature is moderated by the Pacific Ocean. Smaller crowds, reduced chances of fog and rain, and a wide variety of visiting bird species make spring and fall ideal times to visit the Redwood Forest. It’s also a great time of year to cruise US-101/Redwood Highway and CA-1/Pacific Coast Highway.
