Notes on “Gone”

“Gone” represents the genesis of my journey into the world of independent publishing. Having always loved to write, I was eager to compel others outside my immediate family to sit down and take a trip through the darkness my mind conjures.

This is probably my most well-known tale. During a two-day eBook giveaway this story was downloaded well over ten-thousand times. Being a freebie, I wasn’t able to quit my day job, but that was still one of five best moments in my life.

This story itself is not really horror, more of a tale of supernatural grief, tragedy, and confusion. I’ve been in terrifying car accidents myself, even lost a few people to highway fatalities, including my brother-in-law Keith. I often have a recurring nightmare involving myself or others being maimed or killed in gruesome flashes of metal, blood, and bone, mangled and wet.

I also enjoy coffee, and occasionally visit the Starbucks described in this story. And though the line is ridiculous, it doesn’t get backed up into traffic on Blanding Boulevard as badly as Greg experienced it, unless it is the first day of autumn, or there’s a new flavored ice coffee that day.
