Notes on “Ghost Light Road”

The core of this story is based on actual events. My sister and her friend really did beg me to take them to the legendary Ghost Light Road out in Fruit Cove, Florida. I liberated my Mom’s car and we ended up stuck in the deep sand in the middle of fucking nowhere.

We ended up finding some Quaker types with a tow truck who preached at me for taking kids out into the woods at night, giving me the come-to-Jesus lecture for what seemed like eternity. By the time the kind folks towed the car out of the sand, the battery had died and then we also had to ask for a jump.

I returned to that area to research this story, not entirely surprised that it had been developed, a suburban neighborhood having taken over the scary road where the decapitated biker forever stalks the night in search of his lost love.
