Alors que l’historiographie des Amérindiens s’était, pendant très longtemps, cantonnée à l’étude de leurs relations avec les Blancs dans le cadre de l’histoire des États-Unis, une « nouvelle historiographie indienne » s’attache à restituer aux indigènes leur propre histoire.
