You close the hatch in frustration. The rats’ squeaking just gets louder. Finally you realize that they are chirping in a familiar rhythm. Where have you heard it before? It’s a song from a commercial for Coachmen, which are navigational devices for spaceships! They aren’t rats at all! Your godmother didn’t mention that this ship came equipped with them. What luck!
You gather the Coachmen and open a hatch with a compass painted on it. There you discover a digital rat maze on a tabletop screen. One rat jumps onto the screen. The other begins punching buttons on nearby controls, causing a digital image of Fara to appear on the maze. The running rat whirs into action, working its way through the complex maze toward Fara. You hear the spaceship’s engine kick into gear. You reach your destination in no time.
At last it is your turn to fly. You zoom through the air, showing off your piloting skills as you dodge obstacles. Then you decide to add a little spice with your special trick, a quadruple backward loop. You land to the roar of applause.
After all the contestants have flown, the king collects everyone’s keys. “I will announce the winner by displaying the pilot’s key,” he says. “But first, we party!”
You glance at the hovering space-clock above the contest grounds. It’s nearly midnight. You should return to Quog before your Carriage5000 turns back into Jacko. But you can’t leave before they announce the winner. It’s possible you’ve won, and you don’t want them to give the prize to someone else if you’re not there.
