Commander Chris Lewis responded to Tower Four's call for help. His implants gave him a good view of what was going on in the towers. He was far better informed than most of the soldiers around him, and he knew how much damage the Kamari war droid had done to the levels below. He would never underestimate its abilities. He had seen what it had done to the White Spear's Operations Room with its strange black lightning, and he had seen it destroy the tech factory from several hundred metres away. If he was ever going to stop it, he would have to stop it now.
Lewis ran down the stairs, disabling each shield in front of him, and locking them behind him as soon as he and his five Mech Enforcers had managed to descend to the next level. The Mech Enforcers couldn't keep up with him on the steep stairs. They were built for fury rather than speed, and the shallow steps caused problems for their wide, claw like feet. He sent them a recorded simulation of his own feet sprinting down the stairs, hoping that they could learn from it, but he realised that their large feet and extra momentum would make it difficult for them to mimic his technique to improve their speed.
He was short for a soldier but that didn't matter to a man with implants. He had always been more than the sum of his parts. He had many skills to call upon and there were always so many systems ready to help him out. Today he was controlling the Mech Enforcers. They were one of his favourite chassis types where combat was involved. Their firepower was unrivalled. That was why he had chosen them for this onerous task.
The blast doors hindered his progress but he couldn't really complain. That was what they were there for. They rose up into the ceiling when he transmitted his unique encrypted access codes, and they slid back down when he released them. He had perfected the process after repeating it so many times while descending through the levels, but it was still taking too long to work his way down inside the tower. He didn't have any other options. He couldn't take the Mech Enforcers through the Air Route, and the cargo lifts only stopped on predefined levels. He couldn't think of any other way to place them in the path of the war droid any faster.
Damage reports flowed through his mind, forming and endless stream of bad news. The reports appeared as orange patches in his peripheral vision, each one competing for his attention. He read twenty-six of them between breaths, finding nothing but death and destruction in all of them. The rest of the reports would have to wait until later. He had to focus on other priorities right now. He had to stop the Kamari war droid before it killed them all.
Lewis studied the information that he had been able to gather so far. The war droid had an unfamiliar chassis. The Monkey Droids had been attacking it for some time with little effect. They had not been able to penetrate its shields at all. Lewis was hoping the Mech Enforcers would prove to be more formidable opponents. They ought to be. They were the best chassis in their class.
The war droid had opened a few blast doors on the lower levels, providing the correct security codes every time. Lewis had put a stop to that now. He had started cycling the security codes one hundred times per second. However the droid had been getting access to its codes, it wasn't fast enough to keep up with how quickly Lewis was changing them. He shared this new algorithm with the Heart so it could automate the process on his behalf. It wasn't difficult for him to do but it made sense to share the knowledge with the other Implants so they had full access to what had already been tried.
