The Difficult Summer, the second book in the Bracken stables series, was published by Evans Brothers in 1959. Like the first book, this one had a front cover by Anne Gordon, a frontispiece and seven internal illustrations.
The next edition of the book was in paperback by Dragon Books. It was printed in 1967, along with the other two books in the series, and had a new cover by Mary Gernat. It kept the Anne Gordon illustrations.
Dragon produced one further edition, issued in 1978. This had an illustrated cover, unfortunately uncredited, but kept the internal Anne Gordon illustrations.
