After almost two decades of involvement, and without a personal belief in the theory, Campbell would travel to a sheep ranch and outpost in Australia to take photographs during the 1922 total solar eclipse. For many scientists around the world, Campbell’s results would provide the definitive proof that Einstein’s law of gravity was correct. After carefully measuring his plates for several months, he cabled the good news to Berlin. Then he sent a message to Sir Frank Dyson, his friend of many years, at the Royal Observatory: WE NOT REPEAT EINSTEIN TEST NEXT ECLIPSE.
