A Word From Justin

I hope you enjoyed Every Dying Hour. It was a lot of fun to write and, since it was my first full-length novel, it holds a special place in my heart. Martin Aubrey was inspired by two of my favorite literary characters—Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, hence the name Martin Aubrey. These two heroes are the main characters in the Master and Commander series by Patrick O’Brian. If you haven’t read those books, you should. Jack Aubrey is the daring, swashbuckling, master tactician of a sea captain, while Stephen Maturin is the cerebral, intellectual, man of science who serves as Jack’s ship surgeon. I couldn’t think of a better combination to create a badass, intelligent detective like Martin Aubrey.

Aubrey’s story continues in the next book—Executioner’s Lament. In Book 2, we get to further explore the world of the Tappers and the Keep. We also meet a few more characters, like the plucky Malina Maddox, who was an absolute joy to write.

The world of Martin Aubrey will continue from there as I have many adventures in mind for him and the people around him. Please join me as we navigate this exciting universe!
