Welcome to Oaks Crossing!
When Mike Kinley strolled into my imagination, I was hooked. Who was he? What was his story? And what was making him so grumpy? Basically, the same questions Lily St. George was asking herself when they first met. Through the course of the story, he answered all of them. Stubborn to the core, eventually he was able to let go of the bitterness that had weighed him down, leaving him open to a brighter, more hopeful future. And he was smart enough to recognize it was because of Lily.
Like me, Lily was drawn to the protective single father doing everything in his power to make a good life for his daughter. While she adores children in general, Abby quickly takes over a special place in her heart, which draws her closer to Mike even while she’s trying to keep her distance. Throughout the summer, the Kinleys and other residents of Oaks Crossing embrace her and give her a place to belong. That’s something we all need, no matter who we are.
