Fix Your Attitude

Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds. ~ Ephesians 4:22 -23

I normally start the first day of class asking my students the fundamental question, “What kind of attitude did you bring to school this year?” Every year, this question brings puzzled looks from everyone.

I am amazed that people normally do not have a high level of attitude awareness compared to physical awareness. Think about it:

• We know when we have stomach pain; we cannot see it, but we can certainly feel it.
• We know when we have headache pain; we cannot see it, but we can certainly feel it.
• We know when we have back pain; we cannot see it, but we can certainly feel it.

So why is it that we do not know when we have a bad attitude? We cannot see it, but we can certainly feel it, and others can feel it also.

Let’s be honest, encountering someone with a positive and jolly attitude is a rare occurrence these days, and if you are working in an industry that brings you into close contact with people, you are deeply aware of the highs and lows of other people’s attitudes. You notice their facial expressions, their hypocritical smile, or a harsh and faithless remark.

As a Christian, you need to safeguard your attitude while being bold and courageous. Realize that your attitude is a choice. It is a choice that manages the way you perceive the world and the way the world perceives you.  Always remember:

A bad attitude can block love and blessings, and stops you from discovering your purpose. Do not be the reason you do not succeed.

I want to encourage you to find the determination, the perseverance, and the tenacity to have a positive attitude. I know you have faced some difficulties and have had several obstacles that seem impossible to overcome, but focus on the promises of God and smile. Jesus has already overcome the world and promised you victory. It is time for you to have a victorious attitude!

When you wake up and start your day tomorrow, you should have an attitude of gratefulness, an attitude of hope, an attitude of love. You should have an attitude of faith, with expectancy, that you will receive every blessing God has in store for you.

The right attitude will keep you going and add fuel to a burning passion. When you have the right attitude, no barrier is too high and no valley too deep. When you fix your attitude, you will start to understand that no dream is too extreme and no challenge is too great.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, I make the volitional choice to represent you well through my attitude! Remind me, dear Lord, to also express my appreciation and thanks to those you have placed in my life. Thank you for the generous blessings. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
