ABiH or BH: Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina—Muslim-led forces of the Bosnian government.

APC: armored personnel carrier.

BSA: Bosnian Serb Army.

CAS: Close Air Support.

FC: Force Commander—the commander of all UN forces in the former Yugoslavia.

FRY: Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The name adopted by Serbia and Montenegro, two of the six former Yugoslav republics, after the dissolution of the country.

MRL: multiple rocket launcher.

OP: observation post.

RPG: rocket-propelled grenade.

SDA: Party of Democratic Action—the Muslim nationalist party headed by Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovi

SDS: Serbian Democratic Party—the Bosnian Serb nationalist party headed by Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadži.

SRSG: Special Representative of the Secretary General. The civilian head of the UN peacekeeping missions in the former Yugoslavia.

UNHCR: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

UNPF: United Nations Peace Forces—the umbrella name for the three separate UN peacekeeping missions in Bosnia, Croatia and Macedonia created in April 1995.

UNPROFOR: United Nations Protection Force—the name of the UN peacekeeping mission in the former Yugoslavia from February 1992 until April 1995. After April 1995, UNPROFOR referred only to the UN mission in Bosnia.
