Chest heaving, he lay next to her and grinned. He kissed her on the lips. “I love you, Lily.”

“I love you too, James.”

“I’m going to go clean up in my bathroom. You should shower too.”

“Okay,” Lily said.

Lily went into the bathroom and shut the door, turning the lock. She sat on the toilet, her mind racing. Tears came to her eyes, but she swiftly brushed them away. Lily reminded herself that she would do whatever she had to if it meant escaping. She needed to get the hell out of here.

She stepped into the shower, relishing the steaming hot water running over her skin, one of the few enjoyments left in her life. Lily left the bathroom and changed into a different outfit. When she had brushed her hair and partially dried it, she went into the living room wearing her shoes.

James eyed her shoes. “Going somewhere?” he asked with a sarcastic chuckle.

“Um, y-yes. To the mall?” Lily questioned, unsure of herself.

James shook his head. “You aren’t going anywhere. I’ll let you order an outfit online if you want new clothes.”

“But that was the deal. I thought—” Lily started.

“You thought what? That you could seduce me and then I would do whatever you wanted? Who taught you that trick? Your whore of a sister?” James sneered.

It was the first time he had brought up Rose in months. It hurt to think about her sister. She missed her so much, even if she had been a bitch to her the last time they saw each other. Lily bet Rose regretted it now.

All the hurt, heartache, and loneliness bubbled up inside of her. Lily’s bottom lip trembled as her emotions became too much to handle. Her eyes welled with tears, and an anguished cry erupted. The tears poured down her face. She took off her shoes and threw them at the wall, running to the guest room.

“Go to your room!” James shouted with ferocity.

“I already am!” she shouted back.

Lily slammed the bedroom door and stood with her back pressed against it. She slid down to the floor and held her head in her hands. James wouldn’t let her out of the house for any reason. She was trapped. Now Lily knew for sure that she could never leave.

Inhaling sharply, she sat still until her breathing steadied and the tears stopped falling. She had to think. She needed a new plan of attack. Lily would convince James that she loved him and wanted to be with him again. If she did as he asked, stopped trying to escape, and he lowered his defenses, she would wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.

If Lily couldn’t leave, then the only way to escape was to kill James.
