Charles Rubin, author of the hilarious novel, Hard Sell, has always wanted to write about Hollywood as well as the Second World War. With his novel, 4-F Blues, he was able to combine both subjects.

Born and raised in New York City, Charles attended an arts , and drama high school. After a stint in the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended Columbia University, worked as a stevedore on the New York docks, and as a gofer at CBS. He then chose a career in advertising, becoming a top, Clio Award-winning writer/producer and creative director in New York, Boston, London, and San Francisco.

Charles has also written for TV sitcoms in the U.S. and England. A venture into the world of nonfiction produced a book that has greatly helped parents, the controversial: Don’t Let Your kids Kill You: A Guide For Parents of Drug and Alcohol Addicted Children.

Still involved in the ad business, as the head of Rubin Advertising, some of Charles’ clients include Apple Computers and Levi Strauss. His headlines include For people who can’t stand self-indulgence in others, hut often forgive it in themselves for Piper Heidseick Champagne, and Reserve The Edge of Your Seats for San Francisco Opera.

Charles and his wife, Betty Bethards, author of the internationally acclaimed bestseller, The Dream Book, live in Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco. Between them, they have four sons and one daughter.

Currently, Charles is working on a mystery novel that takes place in London, and involves the late Princess Diana.
