Now we will draw a side view of a male body. We are still following the 1:7 head-to-body ratio. Keep in mind that these rules are very generic, and the best way to learn is to study the human anatomy and to draw different poses at different angles. Practice makes perfect!
Begin by drawing seven equally spaced regions. These will act as a guideline to help you maintain correct proportions. Add a vertical (symmetry) line down the center.
Sketch the character’s profile head in the first region. Sketch the ears behind the vertical line.
The torso ends in region 4, and the elbow is in the center of region 3. Follow these rules to construct a proportionally sound upper body. The hand ends in region 4.
Start sketching the character’s legs. The knees are at the bottom of region 5 and the feet fall toward the end of region 7.
Draw the character’s eye and add more details to the muscles if needed.
Add hair, then add ink and erase the guidelines.
