Track 45

“Boom Clap”

Present Day

Call it a Jedi mind trick, but Hayden could sense right away that Cassidy was disturbed by whatever it was she’d seen on the dance floor. Taking her to Watkins Lookout to debrief seemed like a great idea to rebalance the Force.

Until she questioned him about the girl he’d said resembled her.

He couldn’t lie to himself. Losing Kalexy had cut him like a laser beam. They were best friends. All their short lives, they were told they would be partnered once they reached adulthood. Once they were ready to form a family unit. As he grew older on Earth, he realized he wasn’t in love with Kalexy. Still, he mourned her when he got word she’d passed away.

And, yes, Cassidy bore a resemblance to Kalexy. And, yes, it stopped him in his tracks when he first saw her in the crowded halls of Dawson High. It made his job as an Observer even harder.

Kissing her, though, was easy. He was attracted to her drive to save her mother, to her open smiles, to her authenticity, to the way she was determined to help him fit in. The latter, of course, was something he didn’t know he craved until he met her.

He just wished he could show her his true, authentic self. Time and time again, Sam and Lindsay warned him not to use his Aguan abilities on Earth. He wanted to obey. He really did.

But after losing his keys—such an Earthling thing to do—he had no choice but to use telekinesis. Cassidy was none the wiser as he “hot-wired” the truck not with his hands but his mind.

Also very human? To be so caught up in the moment of kissing Cassidy that he did not see they were about to be ambushed.
