Chapter

35

Rachel and Nate entered the lobby of Peaceful Intervention Emergence. They were met with resistance.

“You are not welcome in this building. This is your first warning,” the young man with, of course, blond hair and blue eyes warned.

“Man, you weren’t kidding, they all look like Stepford Wives, except they have men mixed in.”

“You are trespassing on private property. This is your second warning.” The young man was now five.

“Damn, they multiplied. Holy crap,” Rachel proclaimed as she froze in place, shocked at the scene.

“Rachel, stay with me.” Nate unclipped his weapon, then pulled his badge as Rachel walked over to him. “RPD, I’m here to serve a warrant for Wyatt Chambers.” He moved in a circle, since the men, now closer to ten, surrounded them.

“You are trespassing on private property.”

“Ah, the lovely Krystal.” Nate recognized the woman stepping in the circle from before.

“Don’t you people ever learn? This country is our country. Your purpose for being here is to serve your superiors in any way we see fit. Some of you understand your place. However, there are the colors like you who have to be taught how to bow down to us.”

“Bow down to who?” Rachel gave a head roll. “And what in the hell do you mean by colors?”

“Rachel,” Nate warned as he looked around. “There are a lot of them and only two of us.”

“And?”

“That means, you ignoramus, your physical strength is nothing compared to the brain power and sheer number of us. We have mobilized in areas of government you could not imagine, to put you and your kind where you are supposed to be.”

“Where is that?” Rachel asked.

“Working the fields, manual labor and handling menial tasks if your brain can handle them. We are going to eliminate the terror your kind has brought to our land.”

“This bitch is crazy.” Rachel glanced at Nate. “If you eliminate us who is going to work the fields and do the manual labor?”

“Your mind is too small to comprehend the master’s plan. We are going to control your population. You will only breed at our will. When we have the number of your kind needed to secure our future need for the workforce, we will stop the breeding.”

“I think your kind tried that before, you know what happened. There was an uprising. Keep fucking with us and you are going to see history repeat itself.”

“I don’t expect the likes of you, to understand.” She turned her back with a smirk. “After all you are the inferior race.”

“Krystal.” Nate put his hand on his gun, keeping an eye on the men surrounding them. “I have never hit a woman before in my life, but I have to tell you, my fist is itching to knock the crap out of you.”

Rachel stepped up. “Allow me to handle that for you.” As Krystal turned back, Rachel’s fist collided with her mouth, knocking her up and over the receptionist desk.

Some of the security team ran to help Krystal, others ran towards Rachel to grab her.

“Oh, no.” Nate pulled his weapon. “Put your hands on her and I’m taking out knee caps then making my way up.”

“She assaulted a superior. She must be punished.”

“Oh my God, we are in the house of clones. They are coming from everywhere.” Rachel stood behind Nate. “What in the hell is happening?”

“Good afternoon. Seems like we have some hot tempers flaring around, wouldn’t you say so, Detective Reigns?”

Nate tilted his head, relieved to hear somebody else in the building that did not sound like a recording. There was no way in hell he would have been able to get him and Rachel out by himself. “Feels like we are in the twilight zone over here, Dane. I could use some help.”

“Oh, I think you can take them,” Dane said from his  position leaning next to the entrance.

“That will not be necessary,” Ross announced as he walked into the middle of the circle where the PIE men surrounded Nate and Rachel.

“Hi, Rachel.” Ross smiled.

“This one assaulted one of our people,” one of the men explained to Ross.

“Why are they talking to him like he’s one of them?” Rachel whispered to Nate.

“Because he looks like them,” Nate replied still not ready to put his weapon away.

Rachel looked around at Ross. “No, he doesn’t. He doesn’t look anything like those weirdos.”

“It’s the blond hair and blue eyes,” Ross finally explained. “They only see color, not the content of a man’s character.”

“Martin Luther King.” Rachel and Nate bowed their heads in unison for a second then looked back up.

“Gentlemen,” Ross pulled a document from his pocket. “This is an order signed by the governor for you to turn over all documents pertaining to the operations of Peaceful Intervention Emergence, specifically anything related to Centerville Maximum Security Center and Peace Reliance Correctional Facility. Failure to comply will result in the arrest of every individual who attempts to delay and or block any of the officers entering your facility as we speak.” He looked behind him to see state police officers entering the building. “Oh, I forgot to say, the same action is taking place at each of those facilities.”
