SMALL SHIT:
Nailing down the day-to-day to build a better future

As you know by now, one of my favorite pastimes is “breaking things up into small, manageable chunks.” So to keep things ultramanageable for you (especially you, Theodore), we’re going to start off easy—with the small shit. Stuff you have to deal with on a regular basis, like being on time and not getting distracted and staying on top of your email. Once you nail that down, life becomes infinitely easier and more pleasant. Then you can move on to the bigger stuff, like retirement planning or building a life-sized replica of Castle Grayskull on your lawn, if that’s your jam.

Part II covers where to begin, tips for time management, how to prioritize by procrastinating, and the difference between a “to-do” list and a “must-do” list.

We’ll also wrangle your inbox, have a heart-to-heart about impulse control, and go step by step through scenarios like getting stuck late at work and spending beyond your means.

Perhaps you’re an Alvin or a Simon and you think you have these things covered, in which case you’re ahead of the game. Well played! However, I humbly suggest that a refresher course could be just the ticket. (Also, there are some jokes that run through the whole book and you won’t get them if you skip this part.)

In parts III and IV, we’ll expand into tougher shit (such as the aforementioned retirement planning, as well as other fun aspects of being an adult), and dig into deeper shit, like mental health, existential crises, and those Big Life Changes I’ve been nattering on about.

For now, though, onward, to the small shit!
