Grown-Up Sloppy Joes

The “adult” element in the filling for these saucy sandwiches is a splash of stout beer, which gives the meat mixture a rich, malty taste. No harm done if you leave it out.

PREP

Select sauté on the Instant Pot® and adjust to normal. Add the ground beef, onion, sweet pepper, and garlic; cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until the meat is browned. Press cancel. Drain off any fat. Add the salt, black pepper, thyme, and flour to the pot; stir to combine. Add the tomato sauce, chili sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and beer. Secure the lid on the pot. Open the pressure-release valve.

COOK

Select slow cook and adjust to more. Cook for 5 to 6 hours. If mixture is too saucy, press cancel. Select sauté and adjust to normal. Cook, stirring, until desired consistency. Press cancel.

SERVE

Spoon mixture onto bun bottoms and top with bun tops.
