CHAPTER 23
I woke up to the moon light shining down on the bed. I stretched my achy body. Jonah and I kept up our fierce fight all through the evening and now I could hear crickets outside the open windows. I rolled over and reached out. I was expecting to find Jonah's bare skin but I only came into contact with cold sheets. His side of the bed was empty and the cold sheets just told me he has been gone for a while. I stretched again as I got up and went to the bathroom to clean up. With my stomach growling I decided to go to the dining hall, maybe I will find Jonah along the way. Once dressed I opened the door of our room to almost smack right into the chest of a tall male wolf. I step back and look up into the dark eyes of one of my guardsmen Jason. He stepped to the side to show another guardsmen, Hendricks, beside him.
“What are the two of you doing at my door?” I asked folding my arms across my chest. I looked back and forth between the two as they stood nervously in front of me. They exchanged a look before Hendricks deep voice caught my attention.
“Alpha Jonah has assigned us to you” He said standing in attention.
“Why?” I asked.
“Ummm.....We are to be your bodyguards” replied Jason with a little caution in his voice.
“What, and you agreed?” I growled. They both took a step back, eyes flying to the ground.
“It is a honor to guard you, Luna” Came Hendricks.
I let out a huff. I couldn't be mad at them. They were commanded by their Alpha. They couldn't go against an Alpha's command. But I can. “Come with me” I said walking pass them and down the hall. “Jonah where are you?” I asked through our mind link. I tried to sound as sweet as possible but I'm not sure it came out that way. “I'm in the dining hall sweets. Is everything okay?” He replied just as sticky sweet. “No, just headed your way.” I replied. “OK, see you shortly”. He said before cutting off the link.
I marched across the field and the main grounds with my poor bodyguards running behind me. Once I stepped into the dining hall all conversation stopped as I quickly walked pass all of the members stopping behind Jonah. He didn't turn around but I knew he was well aware of my presence. His body was tense as he continued to eat his dinner. Across from him was a smiling Donovan who was two seconds away from busting out laughing. “Good evening Luna. Will you be joining us?” He asked grinning up at me.
“No, thank you Donovan, I will take my meal to go” I sneered. His grin got bigger. I continued to stare down at Jonah as he continued to slowly eat his meal. He did not turn around to acknowledge me so I just stood there staring a hole into the back of his head tapping my foot on the ground. My new guards stood behind me awkwardly looking around. Donovan chuckled.
“Umm, Alpha I think you have a visitor.” Donovan stated smiling mischievously at Jonah.
“Oh,” He replied feening surprise. He turns around and looks up at me in surprise. “Sweets, I didn't hear you come in” He says smiling up at me. I rolled my eyes fighting the urge to punch him in the face.
“Jonah, my love. I thought we came to an understanding about me not needing any bodyguards” I said giving him a fake smile myself.
“No, we never came to any type of understanding, so I made an executive decision.” He explained standing up in front of me.
“Jonah, I know...”
“Listen sweets! I understand that you can take care of yourself and I understand that. But for my peace of mind, just please let them guard you. Just until the expansion is complete.” Jonah said rubbing my cheek with his thumb. Letting out a breath I replied with a small nod. “Good, now! Would you like to join us?” He asked pulling out a chair for me. I sat down and started eating the plate of food that was placed in front of me. The conversation in the dining hall started again and Jonah sat back down next to me. My so called bodyguards went to get their own food and sat at the end of our table. I refrained from looking over at Donovan. I just knew that if I did he would still have that annoying smile of his planted on his annoying face.
So this is how my week went. Every day my bodyguards showed up at my door bright in early to escort me to the training fields. Where I spent most of the day punishing them for accepting the gig in the first place. It wasn't until Donovan came up to me after practice to tell me to take it easy on them. “It is a honor for them to get to protect you” He says before arrogantly strolled away. So I let it go and laid off of them in training. But I didn't make it any easier for them off the field. How could I? Almost everywhere I went I was shadowed by my two bodyguards. They followed me as I went through training, they followed me on my runs, which was extremely annoying. I had to slow my pace so that they could keep up. They even followed me when I visited Celeste. I had to put my foot down when they try to enter my room. I needed space. So they would inspect my room for intruders and then wait outside the door for me. They leave once Jonah come home.
