CHAPTER 27

 

 

We landed in a heap and I bounced back up before clutching my side. I looked down at the blood oozing from the huge piece of glass sticking out of my side. I slowly pulled it out and chucked it to the side. Just when I was pulling myself together two strong hands grabbed me by the shoulder. I looked up into the eyes of Maliki.

“How's it going Little Wolf?” He said before lifting me up and tossing me out the window we just crashed through. I landed in another pair of strong hands, Jonah. He placed me on my feet grabbing my face

“You ok, are you hurt?” He asked with concern in his voice.

“I will heal” I said cradling my side. I could already feel myself healing from the wound.

“What happened to you staying by my side” He asked.

“I was never very good at following orders” I said with a small smile.

During our exchange there was a lot of fighting going on around us. Many of Maliki's rogues jumped in the broken window of the school house followed by my guards. Maliki was once again out of sight, which made me worry even more. Donovan was by our side fighting off any rogues that got to close to us as we talked. Beta Johnson stayed with the rest of our guards back on the pack grounds.

Just as Jonah and I were about to join the fight inside the school house. Maliki reemerged holding on to the neck of a very frighten Celeste. The sight of him holding on to her had me visibly shaking. Jonah had to hold me back from attacking him.

“Let her go” I said as I fought to control my rage. I have never felt this type of rage in my life. All I saw was red as I envisioned the many ways I was going to kill Maliki if her hurt Celeste.

“Surrender” Maliki said with a small smile.

“No, don't” Said Celeste.

“Shut up Celeste” I said.

“Let her go now, this fight is between us” Yelled Jonah. I felt his hand shaking on my arm and I looked up at him. He had beads of sweat on his face as he fought to hold back his wolf.

“You ok?” I mind linked him.

“The moon!....its full” He mind linked back. I looked up at the moon and saw it was fully raised up above us. It was beautiful. It was pale pink surrounded by a deep blood red iris. I looked back at Jonah as I felt sharp tingles going down my body. Jonah's eyes had turned a deep red and were shifting from that and his normal blue. “Your eyes” I said. “Yours to” he said before looking over at Maliki.

I looked his way and noticed his smile grew into something of a manic. “Awe! The blood moon has arrived. I can feel its power” He said looking up at the sky.

I could feel the electric current of the moons power as it coursed through my veins like hot lava. It scorched me as it ran the full length of my body. I felt my body react to its effect. My body vibrated and hummed as I grew stronger and my senses sharpened. I sniffed the air and could smell the electricity in the air. All fighting around us ceased as each wolf basked in the power that was radiating from above.

Soft growls radiated and caused the ground to shake as one by one wolves shifted under the moons affect. I couldn't hold on any longer. I felt like my wolf was itching to be free, clawing her way from beneath my skin. I shifted on spot. Jonah shifted behind me. I looked over to Maliki as he tossed Celeste to the side. She could not shift since she was pregnant. She hit the side wall of the school house and fell in a heap unconscious to the ground. I frantically listened and heard hers as well as her unborn pup’s heartbeat. Maliki was lucky, instead of a slow and painful death, I will make it quick.

“Finally” he said before yanking off his jacket and shifting. He was a big wolf, gray and ugly. He crouched down in an aggressive position. Growling he started stepping towards us.

Jonah jumped in front of me as he crouched down in a defense position. He inched towards Maliki and they started to circle each other. I backed up and went over to Celeste who was still knocked out against the wall. Licking her face and whining until she opened her eyes and smiled at me. I peeked over the window and saw Alpha Phil fighting off two rogues as he made his way towards us. Once he reached us he picked Celeste up nuzzling her neck.

“I'm getting her out of here” He said. He had a busy night fighting off rogues left and right that were stopping him from getting to Celeste. He was sweaty and had long claw marks all over his chest. I nodding my head agreeing and mind linked for three of my nearby guards to protect them as they ran to safety within the woods.

I turned around just as Maliki leaped on top of Jonah and swiped him with his paw. Jonah fought back just as hard when he bite down on one of Maliki's front paws. Maliki howled out in pain before falling off of Jonah. That gave Jonah the opportunity to charge Maliki and slammed him into a nearby tree.

As this fight was going on I spotted a rogue coming straight for Jonah from behind. I leaped up and intercepted the charge causing the rogue and I to go tumbling down the small hall on the side of the school house. As we tumbled we both tried to get the upper hand off each other on our way down. The rogue ended up on top and tried to snip at my throat. Before he could get a good grip, I bucked hard sending him flying over my head. I jumped up and swiped at him as he came for me and knocked him on his back. Before he could react, I latched on to his throat. Sinking my teeth down through his thick fur I ripped out his throat. Letting go of his still body as he shifted back into his human form I climbed back up the hill back to the battle that was still in full swing between Jonah and Maliki.

By now, Maliki had shifted back into human form and Jonah was still a wolf. He was hobbling while cradling one of his paws. He had a lot of blood on his fur but I was not sure if it was his or Maliki's. Maliki was also limping with a lot of blood splattered all over his chest. He was welding a blade, swinging it back and forth as he diverted all of Jonah's advances.

“Give up Jonah, you're not going to win” He said with a small chuckle. Jonah leaped at him just as Maliki struck out with the blade. My eyes went wide as I heard Jonah's sharp yelp before he clasped at Maliki's feet with the blade lodged in his side. Maliki knelt down and ripped the blade out causing Jonah to cry out and shift. Maliki raised the blade getting ready to deliver his final blow. Before he could drive the blade into Jonah's chest I took off. I rammed into Maliki with as much force as I could muster, throwing him off of Jonah. I went wild with anger as I lashed out at him with my claws, slashing at any part of him that I could reach. He tried to throw me off of him but I kept coming at him hard. Slicing down with the blade as he tried to stab me. I caught his hand in my mouth biting down. He dropped the knife but managed to kick me in my underbelly. He caught me again by kicking me now in the head. I howled as I rolled away from him landing a few feet away from Jonah. Picking up the knife he bent over me penning me down and stabbed me in my shoulder causing me to shift.

“Well, I guess I don't get everything that I wanted.” He said with a sigh. “Oh well, the land and the pack will have to do. Unless you've changed your mind?” He asked leaning over me. I replied by weakly trying to bite him. “That's what I thought” He replied before raising the knife. I closed my eyes but his final blow never came.

I looked up into the eyes of a dead man. Maliki had a blade right in the middle of his forehead. He fell to the side as I rolled over to find Jonah falling back.

He was lying in a pool of blood and I knew that from my many stab wounds I was losing a lot of blood myself. I glanced across the field to see Beta Johnson and Donovan running our way. We won but I'm not sure if Jonah and I will survive. With as must strength that I could muster I crawled over to Jonah and placed my hand into his before laying down and welcoming the dark. The last thing I saw before my eyes closed was the blood moon. It was beautiful.
