CHAPTER 28

I awoke to a familiar beeping. Feeling groggy and sore I slowly opened my eyes and looked around the room. I was in the infirmary....again. Hell, I should just move in since I obviously can't seem to stay away. I was about to sit up when I heard a groan come from beside me. Jonah!

I looked over to him as he laid in the bed next to me. He stared at me with a smile on his face that melted my heart. “You're alive” I said in a relieved breath.

Hey Sweetness, you were great out there.” He said before falling back sleep. I stared at him for a few minutes before I laid back down and closed my eyes as well. We both needed rest from all the many injuries we sustained.

It's been four months since our run in with Maliki and his crew. We sustained a lot of property damage to many of our houses including the school house. Many of our properties had caught on fire and needed to be rebuilt from the ground up. It will take some time to rebuild and get back to our expansion. But we were thankful that all was not completely lost.

We lost many in the fight including one of my personal guards, Jason. He was a great fighter and I will definitely miss making fun of him during our jogs. We also lost Mitchell who had improved greatly in his skills since I started training but he could not handle the multitude of rogues that attacked us.

We laid all of our lost to rest in a solemn ceremony once a majority of our injured was able to attend. We did not began rebuilding until the fallen were properly laid to rest. And their families were able to grieve. Donovan was a big help when it came to that and we have been able to start the healing process.

After Maliki died, many of his rogues that survived fled. The injured ones are receiving medical care in our holding cells underneath the property. They had their chance to plead their cases to Jonah and the council and it turns out most of the rogues were forced to help Maliki attack us. It seems that Maliki and his two giants captured their families to ensure they went through with the attack. Although he already had a pretty big following he wanted to ensure he had a guaranteed victory. But what he didn't guarantee was their survival. He willingly put all of those innocent rogues’ lives at risk just so he could gain our land and our pack.

We were informed where he was keeping their families and that it was being guarded by many of his rogues that he did not include in the fight. So Jonah and I decided to help these rogues get their families back. We sent out scouts to ensure the families were indeed kept in the locations we were told of. Once we got conformation of the family’s location and how many rogues were guarding them we then set out taking two teams of guards to the hideouts.

We attacked a week later at night by the light of the moon. It was quick with little to no casualties. The team was able to free about one hundred families and bring them safely back to our pack grounds. Unfortunately, once they got here we had to give the bad news of the rogues that lost their lives. We did not bury their dead once we found out they belonged to captured families. We kept them in a building in the back of the grounds until they could be identified. We could not fault them for the part they played in the fight. They fought against their will and lost their life for that. So we allowed those lost to be identified by their family and buried on their own terms off pack grounds.

Once we identified that the captured rogues were no longer a threat we let them go. Many stayed and offered to help us rebuild. They also pledged their loyalty to the pack as well as to Jonah and myself in front of the entire pack. A ceremony was held welcoming them into the pack and they were no longer rogues anymore.

The fight was such an unnecessary fight. One that could have been avoided if only Maliki was not power hungry and did not want to listen to reason or negotiate. We could have easily sat down and discussed the land and our expansion, but his desire to overrun us is what caused him his life. But the fight did bring a lot of good news, such as he will no longer be around to terrorize any other wolves in the area. We were also able to unite many families and we welcomed many new families in our folds. And the good news just kept coming.

Alpha Phil and Celeste made it safely back to their pack grounds and she made a full recovery. Two months ago she had their pup. A gorgeous baby boy they named Phil Jr. It made me smile just to think of his cute squishy face.

I smiled as I crossed the field to where Jonah was playing with some of the kids in front of the newly reconstructed school house. I stopped in front of him as he was helping one of the kids tie his shoes.

Hey sweetness” He said smiling up at me.

Hey yourself” I replied as he stood up and pulled me into his arms. I stared up at him running my finger down the new scar above his left eyebrow. I liked the scar it gave him a more dangerous look that made him even more sexy to me.

How's the baby? He asked after giving me a peck.

Beautiful. He's getting so chunky” I replied snuggling into his chest. We started walking across the field to the pack house. “So, I was thinking......we should start a family of our own” I said looking away from him.

Really?” He asked drawing my attention. I gave a slight shrug.

Just a thought.” I said unsure of his reaction. Without warning Jonah scooped me up making me squall. “What are you doing?” I asked squatting him on the butt.

I figured we can get started now” was his reply. I laughed as we raced all the way to the pack house. Hopefully, soon we will have some little ones for Jonah to chase around instead of me for a change because I was done running.
