ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Jay MacLeod is a parish priest in England. Combining Christian ministry with community work, MacLeod still plays streetball, or tries to. His working-class parish is one of the most ethnically diverse square miles in Britain, and MacLeod works closely with members of the local mosques to engage disaffected teenagers and to foster friendships across the lines of race and religion. He and his wife, Sally Asher, have three children—Asher, Kate, and Toby.
Katherine McClelland and David Karen have been professors of sociology at Franklin and Marshall College and at Bryn Mawr College, respectively, since 1984. McClelland is currently engaged in a longitudinal study of race relations on college campuses; her other research and teaching interests include sociology of education, social stratification, and social psychology. Karen’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of sociology of education, inequality, politics, social movements, and sociology of sport. He is also an elected school board member in Pennsylvania, where he and McClelland live with their children, Rachel and Joshua.
