GINGER AFFOGATO
HOW ABOUT ADDING SOME NEW FLAVOURS TO AN OLD CLASSIC? AFFOGATO IS A QUINTESSENTIALLY ITALIAN DESSERT WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM TOPPED WITH A SHOT OF HOT ESPRESSO COFFEE. AFFOGATO IN ITALIAN MEANS ‘DROWNED’, RATHER AN APT DESCRIPTION FOR THE SWEET ICE CREAM SMOTHERED BY THE BITTER COFFEE AND TANGY GINGER ALE IN THIS NON TRADITIONAL VERSION.
STOVE TOP – POT
4 tsp instant coffee powder (or espresso if you prefer it stronger)
2 cups boiling water
1 cup milk
1 cup ginger ale
8 scoops vanilla ice cream
crushed ginger biscuits for garnishing
fresh mint for garnishing
1.Combine the coffee and boiling water and stir. Add the milk and ginger ale, stir and leave to cool.
2.When ready, serve the ice cream in bowls or glasses with the ginger coffee poured over and garnished with the crushed ginger biscuits and mint.
