SCARBOROUGH ROCK FLOOR THROW

I grew up on the north-east coast of England, and when I was a very little girl my family would take day trips to see some of the pretty seaside towns and fishing villages. One I remember well is Scarborough, mostly because of the colourful sticks of ‘rock’ candy that could be bought there. These long, candy-coloured, sticks of sugary goodness often had the words ‘Scarborough Rock’ running through the middle of them. Oh, they tasted so good, and the memory of them provided me with the inspiration for this oversized circular throw.

Tools and Materials

Yarn Substitution

Any standard worsted weight yarn can easily be substituted for the stated yarn; however, checking your tension carefully beforehand is strongly recommended.

Tension (Gauge)

312 rnds of circular motif worked in tr sts (12st inc each rnd) = 10cm (4in)

Finished Size

Approx. 115cm (4514in) diameter when blocked

TIPS AND TRICKS

Large-scale circular designs can sometimes be tricky, even when you match the stated tension as closely as possible. Any minor cupping or rippling may be resolved with blocking. Address more pronounced cupping or rippling in the crochet process: after every few rounds lay out the work to see how it is progressing. If you have severe cupping, try omitting one or two rounds before the main increase round; for any severe rippling, try repeating the round before a main increase round once or twice. If you check your progress, making any necessary amendments as you go, your throw will lay flat.
