RISK

no one’s ever stolen
the moon for me
hoisted it out of the sky

carried it on his back
rolled it across his shoulders
its cold white fumes

blasting him through space
stars sprawled out like clues
under his feet oh no one’s

ever dared steal the moon for me
until you who sifted through
dirty clouds flew faster higher

than the hungry birds gnawing
the air their wings askew
believing the moon was theirs
