Chapter 8
Millie
Millie sat on the bleachers in the yard watching a couple of the other female inmates playing softball. It wasn’t much but she needed something to get her mind off of what was going on out in the streets. She had been hearing about all the drama that was going on and it bothered her that there was nothing she could do to help from the inside. All she could do was pray that her family was able to maintain for a few more months until she was released and let back out into society. As Millie sat back on the bleachers, she saw Ebony walking across the baseball field headed in her direction. Ebony was a big, rough looking chick with a nasty attitude and bad temper. Ebony had a few girls smuggling drugs in for her but she was forced to sit on them because of Millie. She hated the fact that Millie had most of the C.O.‘s in her pocket and was allowed to basically do what she wanted, when she wanted, and move around as she pleased. But now that Millie only had a few months left, Ebony was beginning to poke her chest out. Millie had even heard that Ebony was talking greasy about her and her family, but she chose not to address or confront Ebony because she knew if she was involved in a violent act, it could cost her a few more months, maybe even years of her freedom and Millie was too smart to let a clown like Ebony outsmart her.
Ebony walked across the middle of the baseball field with no regard for the people who were playing. “That ball hit me and I’m fucking all you bitches up!” She shouted with an intense look on her face. Immediately the ball game came to a standstill until Ebony was across the field. Ebony walked up to the bleachers, looked at Millie, took one last drag from her cigarette, and then flicked it. “Bitch we need to talk.”
“Ya’ll ain’t got nothing to talk about!” Pam spoke up. She was Millie best friend and very protective. She knew Ebony’s intentions and refused to let her get Millie in trouble when she was so close to getting out.
“Bitch I wasn’t talking to you!” Ebony counter never taking her eyes off of Millie.
“It’s cool,” Millie told Pam as she stood up and walked off to the side so her and Ebony could talk privately.
“How can I help you?”
“Listen!” Ebony began. “I think it’s time that you start to share some of your real estate. I mean especially since you’ll be going home in a few months.”
“Once I’m gone you can do as you please,” Millie said in a calm tone. She knew that Ebony couldn’t wait until she was gone so she could flood the jail with her drugs, but unfortunately, for her Millie hadn’t been released yet.
“Listen Millie, I’m coming to talk to you woman to woman,” Ebony said, looking Millie dead in her eyes. “Shit gon have to change around here you’ve had control over this entire jail for years and I think it’s fair that since you about to be going home soon that you allow me to get my little empire started now.”
“I understand where you coming from,” Millie told her. “But you can’t expect me to stop my money now just because I’m about to go home, like I told you earlier once I’m gone you can do as you please it’s nothing personal it’s just business is business.”
“Well you got three days to change your mind or this matter will become personal!” Ebony growled doing her best to try and intimidate Millie. “I’ve sat back and kept quiet long enough, either you going to let me eat or we gon have to bang out the choice is yours I’ll be back to see you in 72 hours.”
Millie shook her head as she watched Ebony walk off and blend in with the rest of the crowd in the yard. Millie knew when her time got short that all types of chicks would be coming out of the wood works gunning for her spot. She called Pam over with a head nod. “Get the team ready, we going to war in 72 hours.”
