A Compassionate Cautionary Note
“Reading is at the threshold of the spiritual life. It can introduce us to it; it does not constitute it.” ~ Marcel Proust
I would be remiss as a teacher, companion and a student on the path if I didn’t give this kind warning. For those of us that have or are suffering from mental disorders; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); previous or current physical, psychological, emotional, or financial abuse; and/or a current or past addiction, please take note. Undertaking a path to self-awareness and authentic living may trigger and bring these issues to the forefront. This is actually a good thing–if we have the proper tools and support to help us navigate wisely through the necessary healing.
My intention is to help you by guiding you to a set of tools to better deal with these conditions, if they exist. By creating a compassionate container for the deep healing work that may become apparent as we shed the layers of conditioning, we are better able to heal these past or current traumas
.
I am not a therapist or a doctor of psychology. My expertise and offerings are based on my direct experience, those of my friends on the path, the teachers I’ve worked with, the books I’ve read and the different healing modalities I’ve either experienced or practiced.
If I become aware that a client of mine has one of these conditions, and I sense difficulty arising, I will most likely ask them to work concurrently with a professional as a condition for our working together.
If you have any of the conditions I described above or discover them as we journey together, I wholeheartedly encourage you to seek out professional help and guidance. The wisdom of adding this “tool” to help maintain a safe container for your inquiry is the most compassionate and loving thing you can do for yourself and your healing journey.
