APPENDIX A

Reference Guide to Colors

Color impacts us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our response to light is deeply ingrained in our nervous system. The enzymes and hormones in our bodies are affected by different colored lights, causing them to go through molecular changes.

Our spectrum of consciousness is not separate from the spectrum of light. Color is a part of the radiation from the sun. Within the visible electromagnetic spectrum, the longest wavelength (lowest frequency) is red light and the shortest wavelength (highest frequency) is violet light. (White light does not have a specific frequency or wavelength because it is just what our eyes see when all the of colors’ frequencies are combined.)

Because consciousness is so closely related to the spectrum of light, the colors you choose for your clothing, altar cloth, objects on your Blessing Altar, and other tools will dramatically affect the energy of your space clearing.

Refer to the following list for your altar cloths, items for your altar, and the clothes that you wear during your clearings.

red: Associated with strength, courage, steadfastness, health, vigor, passion, sensuality, fire, zest, drive, and physical energy. Revitalizing and stimulating, red can assist in overcoming inertia, depression, fear, or melancholy. It’s dynamic and tenacious.

orange: Associated with optimism, expansiveness, emotional balance, confidence, self-motivation, changeability, enthusiasm, and a sense of connection and community.

yellow: Associated with clarity of thought, mental discrimination, organization, attention to detail, evaluation, active intelligence, academic achievement, discipline, administration, heightened expression, joy, and freedom. Stimulates the intellect and aids in communication.

green: Stimulates feelings of balance, harmony, peace, hope, growth, and healing. Green is found everywhere in nature, symbolizing the abundant, replenishing forces of the universe.

blue: Stimulates inspiration, creativity, spiritual understanding, faith, and devotion. Allows for gentleness, contentment, patience, and composure.

purple: Activates spiritual awareness and intuition. Stimulates our inner wisdom and connection to unseen realms. Associated with heightening spiritual perspective and intuition. Calming, soothing, and comforting.

white: Associated with purity, clarity, and transformation. White encompasses all colors and thus is the fastest wavelength of the color spectrum. It relates to divine realization, humility, and creative imagination.

black: Associated with vision, introspection, germinating, silence, incubation, and stillness.

pink: Associated with love, softness, grace, kindness, and self-nurturing.
