Fabric Requirements and Cutting
NOTE
Each stripe requires 2 pieces of fabric. If you want the look of continuous stripes, use 2 pieces of the same fabric for each stripe.
Make the Block
Make Rows 1 and 3
1. Beginning with piece A at the top, arrange each of pieces A, B, C, D, E, and F alphabetically in a column. Sew the pieces together, aligning each piece 1˝ to the right of the piece above it, to create a pieced stack that leans to the left.
2. Use the 45° markings on your ruler to cut 2 pieced strips, each 2½˝ wide. These will become rows 1 and 3. figure a
Make Rows 2 and 4
1. Beginning with piece A at the top, arrange each of pieces A, B, C, D, E, and F alphabetically in a column. Sew the pieces together, aligning each piece 1˝ to the left of the piece above it, to create a pieced stack that leans to the right.
2. Use the 45° markings on your ruler to cut 2 pieced strips, each 2½˝ wide. These will become rows 2 and 4. figure b
Finish the Block
1. Sew together rows 1, 2, 3, and 4, matching the seams between the stripes.
2. Trim away the excess fabric from the sides to make a block 8½˝ × 8½˝. figures c & d
