Author’s Note

This book took longer than expected to finish and to my readers, I apologize for the delay. Many of you were anxious to find out what happened next with Karl and contacted me to inquire about the release of Partners To A Degree, and for that I thank you. Your interest in the story helped me to keep writing even though life was presenting me with some unique personal challenges.

Writing Partners was a transition for me. On one hand I needed to bring Karl’s story to an end as his life eventually became simple and uneventful in the years after the war ended. On the other hand, I wanted to bring Harold to the forefront of the story because his life changed dramatically and he will be the focus of my future books.

Aside from pursuing his own private agenda, Harold embraced the opportunities as well as the challenges that came his way as a protégé of an influential Russian Kommissar. He led a remarkable life and his greatest asset may have been his affinity for languages. He never stopped learning.

Over the years he obtained considerable insight into the Soviet political system, which he audaciously used to further his own career. While he died with the rank of a Russian officer, he was also an astute international trader.

Future books about Harold will be individual novels and the common thread will be historical events in which he, in one way or another, participated. Hopefully my stories will do him justice. They are based upon the notes and letters he sent to me and also the stories he told me when we met in different parts of the world.

As always, I enjoy keeping in touch with my readers and if you have any questions or comments about my books, please feel free to post them on my blog at www.horstchristian.com You are always welcome and I look forward to hearing from you.
